What Goes into Developing Hebron’s 2024 Operating Budget?
Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established. Proverbs 16:3
We start by looking at how 2023 has fared. First, we appear to be on track to realize our budgeted response to the 1st year of our 2-year ‘ask’…thank you! Second, 2023 is shaping up to be better than the sizable deficit we had budgeted. We’ve picked up some non-recurring income and anonymous donations, and there has been a delay in landing the budgeted assistant(s) for our Family Life Ministry. All told, if current giving levels hold and the normal year-end uptick in giving materializes, 2023 may close with a modest deficit if not better. Lesson learned: make room for God!
From there, we collect valuable input from Session teams and staff. Personnel, property, programs and (mission) partners require funding. Our staff has worked tirelessly through the Realm upgrade while advancing ministry initiatives despite being understaffed. There’s a possibility we need to up the ante to get the right FLM assistant. An expansive campus to maintain requires that we set aside adequate funds. Worship and discipleship ministries require funding. And Hebron has long been dedicated to helping our mission partners serve Jesus above and beyond our walls.
Based on what we believe God has called Hebron to do, Session will likely put forward a 2024 budget with a sizable deficit. We’ll walk by faith, not limiting ourselves to what we can do, but leaving room for dependence on what God can do. His power fuels every good work, and He crowns our efforts with success. Stand with us prayerfully and financially during the 2nd year of our “ask.”
May we all extend a God-gracious and Christ-centered welcome to others as we seek to grow in faith and by faith together.
