Blessed Assurance

We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul…that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance …therefore…let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith…

Hebrews 6:19, 9:15, 10:19-22

The book of Hebrews is not an easy read. Certainly, one aim is to show the supremacy and sufficiency of Christ as the High Priest who offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins and sat down at the right hand of God where He intercedes for us (Hebrews 10:12).

Some years ago, a fella in my small group would close his prayers with ‘In Jesus’ name, our sure hope’. It was his expression of confident assurance that was the subject of Hebron’s recent Advent devotional and sermon series. A simple reminder that all we need now and in the future is in Christ.

Living that hope is easier said than done. The cares and responsibilities of life can overwhelm us, and we find ourselves looking for hope in the wrong places. Notably,
self-reliance creeps in, a ‘do as you please attitude’ follows and soon we find that we’ve deceived ourselves.

What then is our anchor when we are buffeted by the storms of life, whether of our own making or otherwise? Perspective helps. What are momentary difficulties in comparison to our eternal inheritance in Christ? Why be preoccupied with our problems and inadequacies instead of living in confident assurance of His provision?

The Lord Jesus has seen Hebron through budget deficits that last 2 years, and while we face yet another one for 2025, we need to look to nothing else but Him with full assurance for time and time again He has proven faithful and true.

Thank you for your steadfast support of Hebron’s ministries.
